On the road to Farmington

So yesterday we went to Farmington, New Mexico for the first time. Most people that live here go there quite often to stock up, but we were lucky enough to have Devon's parents live nearby until just recently. On the way we saw two things that we had never seen.
#1 We saw a movie shoot on "Forrest Gump" hill. Not far from our house (13 miles to be exact) is the place were Forrest "just stopped running." As we drove up to this spot we saw lots of police cars and thought there might be a wreck- but actually they were filming a movie. I don't know what movie it was- but there was a cool red car and lots of people with cameras and equipment.

Devon wanted to write about #2
We came across a horse race called "Dash for the Cash" near Red Mesa, not too far from Farmington. Actually there were 2 races going on, 1 more dangerous than the other. There were quite a few cars, probably around 100 over the course of a 10 mile stretch, that were parked on the side of the road watching the horses go by. When the lead horse passed they would dart into traffic and try to get to the finish line before the race ended. In order to do this they would speed into the other lane of the 2 lane highway (1 lane each way) and try to pass as many cars as possible before a car coming the other way got within 20 feet of them and they had to dart back into their correct lane, and the other car had to swerve off the road. What was worse was that many of the crazy drivers were in pickup trucks with kids in the back. It was INSANE! We were both shocked that there wasn't an accident.
