The Whittaker's let Spencer borrow their bike. He has a bike of his own, but as our other neighbor says, this is the SUV of toddledom.

Spencer always tries to copy what we do, Devon needed to relieve some stress.
Devon found a scorpion in his class this week. It was crawling right by his foot. He is crazy so he caught it. It is still in a jar in his desk-yuck!

Here are some pictures of houses that the Navajo people live in. Some of Devon's students do not have running water or electricity. It's like a little third-world country inside of America. It makes me very grateful for our little apartment.

Train Rock

On Sunday, August 17th we decided we wanted to go on a little drive to see the sights all the tourist come here for. Our neighbors, the Whitaker's were nice enough to lead take us to some places. We headed a little bit North and West of where we live to Oljato. Here are some of the things we saw. This first picture is "train rock." I really think it looks like an engine with a few cars.

These are the ruins that we went to see. I can't believe people used to live up there! I hope they at least had a ladder to get up!

Lewis thought this rock would be easy to tip over- but it is pretty big!

On the way Marin found a bone. She was very interested in what animal it might have come from.

These are our neighbors the Whitaker's, Sadie, Lara and Marin. Spencer loves playing with them. This picture was taken on our walk/ride on Sunday, August 17.

Swimming

Before we left Provo we bought a little wading pool on clearance. It is not nearly as hot here as we feared it would be, but we have had plenty of days warm enough for a dip in the pool. Spencer is playing with the Whitaker kids, Marin, Lara and Sadie. He is the only little boy in the complex.

Spencer is getting to be a very brave boy. Sometimes he is brave enough to go down the slide by himself, but usually he just turns himself around and goes down on his belly.

We have a "playground" at our complex that Spencer likes to play on.

Our next-door neighbor Emily has two dogs named Plato and Miriah. Spencer thinks they are great! They are such nice dogs. Spencer sticks his hands in their mouth so that they can kiss him. Good thing hands are washable!

We went with our neighbors, the Whittaker's to the McDonald's in Kayenta. Spencer had never played on the toys at McDonald's before. He had a great time!

Here are pictures of some of the things Spencer loves doing at our new house. He loves to go outside, there are lots of places to walk around and explore; he always has to be carrying a rock and his shovel.
Spencer also loves to play in the cupboards that don't have child's locks on them.
He is a big help with unpacking, he is helping daddy put his computer back together.

There are tons of grasshoppers here. There are dead and live ones everywhere! Spencer is fascinated by them. He tries to chase the live ones. When he sees a dead one he stands right by it and bounces, like it will help it jump again. It's pretty funny! He is such a boy. Yesterday he picked up a beetle!

Rain Storms

On one of our first days here in Monument Valley, I went on a walk with one of our new neighbors to get some "home-grown" peaches. When we got to the fruit stand the clouds just burst open and it started pouring. We started heading back and someone from the community stopped and picked us up. We were already soaked! As it turned out, Devon saw that it started pouring, so he came out to find us. We were one soaked family. And to top off the adventure, when we got home we saw that the peaches were from California. We should have driven to the grocery store!
