California

Over Devon's spring break we took a trip to California. First we spent one night at Grandma Roberts house. We has a great time visiting with them. Spencer loved playing in their backyard and "smelling the lemons." It was great to see them!

On Sunday night we went to Tom and Traci's house in San Diego. We had a wonderful time there too! Spencer loved his cousins (second cousins I guess). He was always asking "Where are my friends?" He also loved the fish and the chickens. We could not keep him away from the chickens.

Tom and Traci also have a nice little orchard, and the fruit was sooo yummy!

Spencer has an eye for animals, he found this lizard.

On Tuesday we went to the beach. At first Spencer did not want to get wet, so he would get as close to a wave as he could an then run when the wave came in. It was pretty funny. After a little while he decided swimming was more fun, and he was pretty daring!

James liked the beach when he was being held, but he was not a real fan of the water or the sand.

The weather was great, not too hot, but not freezing either. I wish there were a beach here in Monument Valley.

On Wednesday we took Spencer to Disneyland. We actually got free tickets through the "Give a Day, Get a Day" program. Spencer did really well at Disneyland. I thought he might be a little young, but he loved it. He especially loved the fantasy land rides. He was not a big fan of the snow monster on Matterhorn, but otherwise he loved it. He didn't even get scared of the pirates and the Haunted Mansion- we were a little worried about those.
Here are Spencer and Daddy on the train. We got into the park about 5 minutes before it opened. We walked right onto rides until about 10 or 11, then the lines got long. We read a lot of tips- so if you are heading to Disneyland you should ask Devon for an itinerary.

The classic jungle cruise- Spencer loved it!

Of course you have to take a picture in front of the castle. They never seem to turn out too well, but it's worth a try!

Spencer and I rode Dumbo. My only regret is not doing more fantasy land rides in the morning when it was slow. We expected it to slow down in the evening, but it never did.

Devon and I split up and rode "Big Thunder Mountain" since Spencer wasn't big enough to go on any big rides. We took turns with Spencer at the "ranch." Let's just say I would never let him hug a goat here on the res- but these goats were a lot more tame, and clean!

You will see this gun in many pictures since Spencer would not put it down. I think Spencer's favorite ride was Astro-blasters. I say that because he screamed when we got off of it. We bought him a laser gun and it was a perfect bribe for the rest of the day.

Here are some pictures in Donald's boat in toon town.

We got to explore Mickey's house and meet Mickey. He liked Spencer's gun too.

We met up with our friends from here in Monument Valley. We switched off kids so we could go on some adult rides. Here are Jackson and Spencer with Woody.

We watched the "street Show" I guess it's not called a parade anymore. Spencer really liked it, but he was not about to go out in the road and dance with them.

We ended up staying a lot later than we planned since Spencer did so well, and you only go to Disneyland once in a long while. Here is Spencer taking a little snooze, or at least pretending to.

The last thing Spencer did was try to take another souvenir. I guess he won't be the next king of England, but that's alright with me.

We timed it just right to be waiting for/riding the tram during the fireworks, so Spencer still got to see them but we didn't have to fight the crowds heading out. It was a great day. We got on lots of rides, and we all had a great time!
