Just a random group of pictures to show what we've been doing since Texas. Enjoying the last of summer, only one more week- where did it go?
Spencer with his "minjin turtle" mask
Ready to ride!
I'm trying to read here!
My sister and her family took a rafting trip on the San Juan River. We really enjoyed being able to see them a few times.
Huck and James enjoyed the same thing, throwing rocks in the river!
Spencer in the Spencer's (that's their last name) raft. It actually looked like a fun trip- for a day or 2!
Yes- the boys smelled like dead fish when we got home, the water here is pretty muddy and smelly.
Taking off! These pictures were taken by Mexican Hat.
On our way to pick them up from the end of their trip we had an adventure of our own. Devon was driving their car and I was driving our CRV up the "Moki Dugway." Basically that is a pretty scary dirt road of switch backs straight up a mountain- pretty narrow in places. Anyway, I was driving and all of a sudden our CRV just died. Thankfully we were in a rare wide part of the road where cars could get by, it was way to steep to push it up out of the way. I took Melissa and Spence's car with James about an hour further to pick them up while Devon flagged someone down to use their phone. Thankfully there were some very nice people who helped Devon out. No one could get the car to start, and everyone guessed the fuel pump had gone out. One person who was selling necklaces at a lookout point let Devon and Spencer sit in their car and use their cellphone to try to communicate with the roadside assistance. First they sent the tow truck to the wrong place, then the tow truck got a flat tire on the way to get Devon. All said, our car broke down about 11am and Devon made it back to Monument Valley about 8pm. At least we have unlimited towing. Also, our very kind neighbor figured out what was wrong with the car (and our dryer), and it was the rotor that had come loose and broken- which is cheaper and easier to fix.
Melissa and her family spent the night with us, which was fun. We did some fun and kind of scary fireworks- sorry no pictures.
Lately it has been raining a lot. Here are the boys enjoying the puddles. I think we went through about 4 sets of clothes that day- i am so grateful for washing machines!
Yesterday we had a big storm in the evening. Here is James with his toy from the flea market- can't beat 50cents
Playing with friends. We sure are going to miss the Whitakers when they move in a few days. We have become such good friends.
There was an amazing rainbow.
I still cannot believe we get to live in such a beautiful place!
